Yay a new city! I think I like Yogyakarta a bit better
Yay a new city! I think I like Yogyakarta a bit better (because it’s smaller and less hectic 😉). We had to wake up at 3:30am this morning so that was FUN. We ended up being very early to our 6am train so had time to chill before the 6 1/2 hr train ride.
The seats on the train were super comfy and I had a good stash of snacks to keep me company. I got chocolate milk, strawberry yogurt, sweet crackers, a bag of tuna I was skeptical about but ate anyways, savory cashews, an orange drink that tasted like citric acid, and a kinder egg. Yes… I got quite the array.
I spent literally the whole time catching up and calling people and I didn’t even get to call all the people I wanted. So the trip actually didn’t feel that long.
It was raining when we got to the station so I had to break out my poncho since we were walking to the hostel. Then went out for lunch as a group to try Indonesia’s national dish! Nasi Goreng, which is basically fried rice. It was good, it had some spicy peppers in it. I was going to try to show the others that they weren’t actually that spicy but the plan backfired on me when a spicy seed hit me directly in the back of the throat… I still feel it now. Luckily I had a mango smoothie to wash it down.
Side note: I’ve noticed is that Norwegians really don’t like milk in their smoothies (at least the people I’ve talked to). To them that means a milkshake, they want their fruit blended with water or juice to be more refreshing (I know right, so healthy 🙄). And of course I’m in the corner loving it with the milk 🤦♀️.
Afterwards a group of us were walking back and we managed to try to get scammed TWICE (only a 3 min walk mind you). They ask you where you’re from, strike up a conversation, and then tell you about some free art exhibit they want you to check in the alleyway saying it will only take «5 minutes of our time». No idea what would have happened if we went.
There were activist riots happening on the streets with fireworks and big groups of people so it wouldn’t have been the safest to go out for dinner so we stayed inside.
