Postcards from Isla · Day 47

I need to listen to myself when I need time

I didn’t know that I actually enjoyed biking so much until this trip. I did my 3rd bike ride this morning and I hope it isn’t the last. First we rode through the city (now this part is a little bit too hectic for me because we have to share the road with cars and motorbikes) but eventually we got out.

Then we rode along rice fields (now this is the kind of thing I like) and I saw a farmer sitting on a water buffalo! Later we made it to a beach. A lot of sellers bombard you with chairs, drinks, and restaurants so it’s kind of annoying when you’re just trying to take a walk on the beach. It pretty much looked like the beaches in Florida except I didn’t see a single seashell.

I was on the beach with my sneakers and I thought I was safe but before I knew it… a massive wave came up and completely drenched my new leather/suede adidas 😱. I was panicking but found water to rinse them. I had to go barefoot the rest of the time (including on the bike 😂) but I don’t mind being barefoot at all. Quickly put them under a fan to dry and by the end of the day they pretty much did (just a little bit of mottled texture on the shoe but they still look fine).

I went down to the hostel pool and laid in the sun. I ended up getting burnt on my shoulders but I think it’s the type of burn that will be gone by morning.

Later the tailor called for my fitting, I was so excited but also nervous that I wouldn’t like it… BUT I ended up LOVING them!! @newlifetailor_hoian The color was super pretty and the piping I loved. All she needed to do was add some buttons and then I could pick it up later. I couldn’t have been happier.

Did some journaling by the pool and then rested in my room for a bit. Went out for banh mi (yes I know I have been getting it way too much but there was a spot that people said was really good so of course I had to try it 🫣). And YES it was absolutely delicious, I wish I had gotten two 🤤.

Other people went out for a lantern boat ride but I just decided to stay in. And sometimes that is hard because I don’t want to miss out, but I realize that I need to listen to myself when I need time (and that’s ok!)
