Europe is a way better place at being walkable than America
When I first heard someone mention walking an hour and half to the mall, my jaw was on the ground. Walking that far to a place is unheard of (at least for me in Florida). I would have never thought about doing that but the reality is— Europe is a way better place at being walkable than America.
For one, it’s normal to walk here. Walk to the store. Walk to the gym. Walk to a cafe etc. It’s safe, easy, and a good way to get exercise. Meanwhile, Americans will loop around a parking lot 10+ times to get the «closest spot» to minimize the distance needing to walk into the store 😂.
Yes, it isn’t the most pleasant experience to be walking next to 4 lanes of speeding traffic and honking horns (at least where I am in Florida) but it’s just a different mindset from here than it is there. Here it doesn’t even matter if you have a car or not, most would still choose to walk. I wish the walking conditions were better at home 🥲.
Anyways, the trip was well worthwhile. I got A BUNCH of smågodt (assorted candy) at Eurospar (thank goodness for the 30% off sale 🥹) and some little things for the upcoming travel to Southeast Asia. I can’t believe that it’s happening in nearly 2 weeks?!
It rained on the walk back, not the most pleasant of walks I’ve had here but we all managed fine. Our friends who decided to take the bus back videoed us while we were walking. Luckily we walked at a quicker pace and got back in an hour. Just in time for a warm plate of taco pasta 🤭.
After, I tried a candy called «Troika» which everyone supposedly dislikes and begged me not to get it. But that kinda made me more intrigued. A chocolate with nougat, marzipan, and jam layered together. Sounds good right?? Turns out I actually liked it. Between the liver paste/mackerel tomat fiasco (ptsd) and the Troika maybe I need to stop listening to my friends…🫣 (totally kidding, you guys have gave me so many delicious recommendations 😙).
