It wasn't the destination, but the journey
I was awoken in the middle of the night by a sound. A constant sound. A sound none other than… rain 🌧️. I quickly put the sleeping bag over my head and just prayed for morning. When I woke up my sleeping bag was wet but luckily only on the outside. It was still a decent temperature in the sleeping bag.
I made myself a warm bowl of cinnamon raisin oatmeal and I ate it on the porch looking out into the clouds (white clouds, not rain ones 😆). Then I got the news that we were going to stay at camp for one more night. The tents were too wet to pack up and the next camp would be in the middle of nowhere with no bathroom; it was just the better option. But of course we still walked our route even though we were bussing right back to camp. It wasn’t the destination, it was the journey after all.
We were very lucky that it stayed cloudy the entire day. It was leisurely walking, a nice pace of slight rolling hills. I walked on sand, rocks, water, wood planks, grass, moss, and moose 💩… I had the best hiking snack, tuna on bread and a crisp Norwegian apple.
Then walked to a church where we used the bathroom, sang songs, and prayed for the journey. Even though I didn’t understand a single thing being said, I could try to piece words together that were printed on a booklet. Then had 2 hours left where we were free to go at our own pace up Dovrefjell.
I played the ABC country game with some people but we kept getting frustrated when we forgot obvious countries 😂 so we switched to Wavelength (guess the number 1-10 based on questions).
The warm, crispy pork chops at dinner were soooo good. I ate them with some sweet mangos. But then it started to rain when it got dark after dinner so I hope tonight isn’t too bad…
Ps: I’m trying to make myself feel better with the song choice, have to manifest 😝.
