Postcards from Isla · Day 20

I noticed the leaves changing color for the first time

Today was shopping day for the pilgrimage next week. I went to a new store (not the Kiwi or Rema I usually go to) called EuroSpar which is a popular grocery chain in Europe. My priority was to get perishable items that pair with bread. And as you know- I wasn’t a fan of the liver or tomato/mackerel paste that most people enjoy- so I had to improvise.

I got peanut butter (haven’t had it in so longggg) and canned tuna. I also splurged a little and got the dried mangos 😝. I was gonna get some beef jerky too but the price was… insane. Norway is noticeably more expensive when it comes to shopping and eating out so I have to be conscious of what I buy since money can disappear so fast 😅. I was going to treat myself to some MORE smågodt but I felt like I already got too many snacks for the pilgrimage so I’ll get it next time.

When I went on my «almost every day» walk I noticed the leaves changing color for the first time. Of course most of the trees are still bright green, but some are becoming yellower. Each day the sidewalks have more and more leaves.

I am anticipating fall so much since I never get to experience it in Florida. But I came to the realization that I will be on my fall trip during the peak of the season 😢. So when I get back almost all the leaves will have fallen off the branches and only sticks will remain. I am really hoping there will still be color, but if not, I know I will most likely experience fall someplace else later in life.

What folkehøgskole has shown me is that there is still so much to experience in the world and that it can’t be done all at once. I won’t even break the surface this year to all of the possibilities but maybe I’ll scratch it just a tiny bit. And maybe that tiny scratch will unlock something I have never even thought about before.
