Postcards from Isla · Day 19

COOKING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!

COOKING HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!! As you know I am in the Kulinaris line so every Thursday and Friday is spent focusing on the culinary experience. The head chef of the school came in to do a lesson on knife skills. We got to use brand new knives (still in its packaging) so you can probably imagine that they were quite sharp… which is a good thing if you are a knife pro.

But, if you’re anything like me (aka not a knife pro) then you will probably end up cutting yourself (which I did… twice) 😔. But don’t worry they were luckily only small cuts. The plus is that I got to experience how smooth a sharp knife truly cuts. I have very dull knives at home that I don’t think have been sharpened since my parents got married so it was refreshing to not have to literally sit on the knife to cut through the vegetables 😂.

I made caramel for the first time today too. It definitely requires a lot of attention and patience since it can burn so easily. Luck was on my side today (with the knives too) because the caramel turned out perfectly. Next week we will cover them in chocolate after they have frozen. Others in the class made blondies, mushroom stew, and mushroom chutney. Afterwards we all got to try our creations at the «best time», directly before dinner 😬. We decided we should probably make things before lunch so we can still enjoy the delicious dinners that the chefs make.

Later tonight was the grand finale to the Harry Potter week. And what a way to finish it off with none other than a quidditch tournament. I can’t believe the stipps (student leaders) planned the whole thing, and even though I don’t like Harry Potter I can tell that they did a really good job.

Unfortunately my social battery gets very drained at the end of the day so I don’t have much energy left to socialize. I am what my friends call an «A person» which I had never heard about before coming here, so I guess you learn something new every day 🤷‍♀️.
