Postcards from Isla · Day 17

I can tell how much everyone loved him.

Don’t let the sunny pic on the first page fool you… the weather here is sooo bipolar. It was constantly changing between the brightest of sun to the darkest of rain throughout the day. I’m actually kind of glad about that because I thought whenever I would wake up to rain here I would fall asleep to it as well (in other words I thought it would be the same for the whole day). Then again, I have only been here for 3 weeks so I may be jumping to conclusions early.

I went to the mall with a friend to get a few things when we had free time. It was beautiful and sunny on the way there and then the way back it was super rainy and grim. My roommate's windshield actually fogged up so bad we had to pull over and let it defog. We would rather be safe than sorry!

I tried smågodt for the first time and it was AMAZING. I got to make my own bag of assorted gummies. Sour, sweet, fruity, chocolatey, salty, soft, hard, and delectable. It was fun to try all the different types to see what I liked and what I didn’t.

However… I think I got a little bit too caught up in the moment because I ended up eating the entire bag… and let’s just say I didn’t feel as good as I did before eating the candy 😂. Lesson learned (I’ll probably do the same thing next time 🤦‍♀️).

Anyways, it was the king’s funeral today so all the students gathered in the auditorium to watch the ceremony. It was very prestigious and elaborate, nothing like I’d seen before. There was a lot of singing from choir which I thought was an elevated way to honor him.

I can tell how much everyone loved him. While I was wandering in the mall today, I noticed that almost every store had a screen up to honor King Harald. It had his royal picture and said «Takk for alt» (thank you for everything). Everyone in the country could be united even if it was just for a day which was nice to think about. He respected them and they respected him in return.
