Postcards from Isla · Day 16

Different but still an adventure

I felt a little upset today since I had to miss a really spectacular hike due to a police station appointment for my residence card. But instead of dwelling on something that couldn’t be changed, I wanted to make the most of it. To go on my own hike in a way.

My «hike» started out with a bus ride (first time going alone 😟) into the city. It was way easier than I thought, so now I know it’s nothing to be stressed about. I was super early (you know in case I took the wrong bus or something) so had some time to kill in town.

I walked around trying to find a cafe to grab a drink. The first one I walked to was a self serve cafe…? I didn’t get what that really was so I backtracked and went to another cafe. But turns out that it was closed even though apple maps said it was open (my dad says I should never trust apple maps so I guess I should have listened…). So I went to another one but it was empty inside…? Only walls… so I guess that closed down. I finally found another cafe but by the time I got there I was so scared that I didn’t even get anything to drink 😂. But at least I found a nice tree to sit under.

After the appointment I felt like I couldn’t leave Ålesund and not get anything. SO I of course settled for ice cream. I wanted to try the famous softis. I got mine rolled in sjokolade powder (a recommendation from a friend) and it was absolutely amazing. DEFINITELY made up for the crazy cafe debacle.

My «hike» then ended with an actual hike up to my usual place. But I walked farther this time, to see what I haven’t seen before. I found a dam at the end of the trail which was really cool to walk across. It had a waterfall under it too and the view was amazing.

So even though I missed the «spectacular hike» I feel like I still got to experience something new. I mean I didn’t have to climb over any boulders like they did but I guess I had my own challenge of trying to find a working cafe… Different but still an adventure.
