Postcards from Isla · Day 10

Maybe we're more similar than we think

I woke up an hour earlier today by accident. I guess I should’ve looked at the calendar 🤦‍♀️. But I can’t lie, it was kind of nice to have more time in the morning.

Today I met with the culinary class and we went over the plan for the entire year. There are a lot of things I am looking forward to such as lobster fishing, making foreign cuisines, diving for food, and having bake off competition.

One thing I like most is how our teacher is letting us choose what we want to do and what we want to make. It is a unique dynamic, everyone seemed pretty excited to be able to have the freedom to make our own choices.

But after that I decorated my cookbook for future recipes and any notes I would want to take. There is also a door decorating contest happening this week. My roommate and I thought that the Nor-merica theme would be best. It’s funny how our flags have the same colors but such different cultures. Maybe we’re more similar than we think…? I don’t know.

I also went to a vaccine clinic today to get what I needed for Southeast Asia. The appointment was so effortless and easy. Didn’t make it in time for dinner but my roommate was kind enough to save me a bowl (and good thing she did because I LOVE meatballs) 😝.

I was invited to go swimming yesterday but I said no since I wasn’t in the mood. The same people asked me again today so I felt like the world was trying to tell me I needed to get in the water. It was raining and windy on the walk down so I REALLY did not want to get in BUT I wanted to go in the sauna after and I wouldn’t have felt deserving of it if I didn’t jump in (it actually felt better in the water than on the dock…)
