Postcards from Isla · Day 8

The view took it all away

When we got up to the top of the fjord after climbing straight up, all of the exhaustion stopped. The view took it all away. Luckily, the thick fog from this morning lifted while we went hiking so we were able to get a perfect view of The Seven Sisters Waterfall.

It was also my first time drinking water fresh from nature. I don’t know if it was just in my head but I don’t think I’ve ever tasted water as refreshing as the water from that mountain. I still have a bit left in my water bottle from earlier but I can’t bring myself to finish it 😣.

On the boat we met some people visiting from Columbia and they were very interested in the folkehøgskole concept. The same thing happened on Saturday where we met some Canadians who were also very interested. People outside of Norway just haven’t heard of this, but the second they do they just want to know more. I hope more people can learn and see what’s it all about.

ps: There was a big joke going around with my «sneakers» (yes, THEY ARE hiking shoes) with the students. Many didn’t believe I was going on the hike because I was wearing «sneakers» (they don’t look like typical hiking shoes). It seems like every Norwegian has the hiking boots with ankle support and I was the only one without.

I mean I did slip a few times… BUT I don’t think my shoes are to blame…(i love them 🥹). And I guess white wasn’t the best color choice either, but hey at least they are colored brown with authentic Norwegian mud. I mean that sounds pretty cool.
